Adopt Me Chee Chee

Back Home Next

CheeChee is a small 5 1/2 pound white and tan Chihuahua that is approx. 10 years old. She has had a very hard life so far, but her life has taken a turn for the better. CheeChee was rescued from a hoarder situation. She was very sick when she was finally free. She was loaded with fleas and worms. CheeChee was treated for sarcopic mange. Her little ears are eaten up from flies. They are getting better with some Vaseline every other day. Lack of proper nutrition and vet care totally deteriorated her bottom jaw. The left side just sags. The right side seems to be attached to her upper jaw for right now. We have hopes that with better nutrition her jaw will stabalize. It is not a guarantee as she has gone many years like this.

CheeChee is very afraid of human contact. Whenever I reach for her, she will cringe and look up at me with fear in her eyes. Once I hold her, she does settle down, somewhat. But any movement from me she will jump. Care needs to be had when CheeChee is held, as you do not want to drop her. She is very fragile and any trauma to her jaw could break it even more.

CheeChee is not potty trained, and right now, does not get the concept of what that is. She continues to potty by her water bowl. This is very common with mill dogs as they need to mark what is theirs. She also will eat her poop. It is hard to believe that a dog with no lower jaw can do this, but she does it very well. We will continue to work on the potty training, but are taking things very slow right now.

CheeChee is also very much a flight risk. A fenced in yard is a must for her. When she is outside I have a harness and leash trailing her. This is a good rule of thumb with any puppymill dog that is scared. By having the leash drag, it makes for a much easier pick up when the time to come in draws near, and it gives you some leverage if she is going in a direction you don't want her to. Whenever she is out, she continuously goes to the fence, looking for a way out. She is very thorough in her search for a hole. I would strongly encourage anyone that is interested, to not let her outside without you being there at the same time.

CheeChee is a work in progress right now. She has a long way to go to trust people. We have not been kind to this little girl. The vet said that she has had many, many babies. She also had a mammory tumor that was removed during her spay. Luckily, it came back negative, but anyone adopting her will need to watch for a reoccuring tumor. Tumors are very common with dogs that have been bred for years.

CheeChee would like a home with adults only, or adult children that understand the need of care and gentleness. Another small non-agressive dog would be very nice for her. She has bonded with the other two Chi's in the house. She has shown no interest in the others dogs here.

If you are interested welcoming a sweet little girl into your home, please email me, her foster mom, at jansencynthia@yahoo.com
