Update for Coco Chanel 6.11

My name is Coco Chanel (also known as Coco-NUT!) I am a very sweet and loving 7- year-old Yorkie! I have survived 7 years in the mill, and although I’ve lost some teeth, and my old bones creak, I’m still a happy gal! I will follow you everywhere and I give little kisses too! I am very good with my pottying: I go outside or on the paper. I do have Epilepsy but it is well controlled with low cost daily medications. I have had some benign mammary tumors due to untreated infections, but no malignancies. I am not a barker, but I will chime in to help when the other dogs when they are barking. I am not cat tested, but I do get along very well dogs. I will truly be your loyal companion! Find out more about me from my Foster Mom at saveadog@comcast.net

March 2011 update

Coco Chanel is winning the hearts of the vet techs! She recovered beautifully from her surgery (benign tumor- caused by untreated infection of mammary ducts) and the extraction of three bad teeth-- she does have a bit of a crooked smile now :) She is on heartworm and now due to another recent seizure, she is on phenobarbital twice daily. She takes it in a little wet food and it is no problem. It is fairly inexpensive, about $11 for 40 days. She is now enjoying the outdoors now that it is warmer! She is very sweet, licks my fingers and follows me all over the house! Each dog is fed separately, so when it is her turn, I call for "Coco-Nut" and she comes full speed ahead like the road runner!!! It is adorable!

Hello all-Feb 17th

Good news, Coco's tumor (although pretty big) was not cancer. It is a cystic tumor (?) related to her mammary ducts which is probably why the incision goes all the way down that side of her nipples (from the first one where the tumor was under the nipple to the second to last one on the bottom.) She should be watched to see that others do not develop. It is most likely from untreated infections in her mammary ducts and some scarring over the years. Nina Ricci has low thyroid so they want to test again in three weeks. She isn't lethargic by any means, but she does weigh twice as much as Coco and they eat the same amount????

Update :

Coco Chanel is getting into the swing of things! She is a 6 lb., 7 y/o Yorkie with the sweetest personality! She has been here 3 weeks today- She has had a large mammary tumor removed - it was not cancerous! She also had a dental and three very bad teeth removed. She is feeling much better as she recovers! She has a two seizures and may require medications to avoid them. We're watching her closely. She has learned the routine here and understands commands like "pick-up", "eat" and "night-night". She comes when her name is called (albeit it's dinner time!), she is able to climb up and down the staircase and the deck stairs, and she is doing very well with potty training- she recognizes that she must go potty (outside) before she can come back in and she gets right to it! She is very sweet and will come up for a kiss. She longs to be with people and be held on the couch. She is not crated at all, and doesn't make a peep at night. She gets along very well with the other dogs and fits right in. She is waiting for her forever home where she can be treated like the princess she is for the rest of her life!

Update :

Well, these two appear to be a bonded pair-always checking on each other!  Cleo (who I would like to rename "Coco Chanel" because she will also make her mark on the world!) is a 7 y/o Yorkie with the full Yorkie personality!

She is bold, and confident- trying to carry off a bone the size of her head!  She approaches and follows the rest of the pack everywhere!  Coco has a mammary growth  which will be removed ASAP 11th February is the soonest date we can get as it appears to be growing very fst, we have only had her for 1 week.

she gets a dental and chest x-ray and blood work to check her out.

She did have one seizure and she is being watched very closely in case she should have another, but so far so good!

Se gets a dental and chest x-ray and blood work to check her out.

 What adorable girls.

Coco Chanel is quite the yorkie and has already taken all the bones-- and my dogs just look at them!  They were exploring the place with their ears straight up after a few minutes of mutual sniffing with my dogs.  They are racing around checking out the toy baskets and playing with each other!  Lisa L was absolutely right, hard to miss those lumps under her arm.

I felt them too when I picked her up- I have an appt scheduled for Tuesday.  She peed a lot then lots of little squirts- could be from holding it or could be a bladder infection so I'll keep my eye on it.  I'm the world's worst photographer but I'll work on it and see if I can get a few good pics-

Lisa- I have one step from living room to dining room and Coco Chanel leaps up with no problem, and Nina Ricci looks at it like it's a foreign object! They are so cute- very adoptable!!!  Thanks so much everyone for helping to get them all this way and for taking such good care of them each step!!!
