Jeffy and George were rescued at auction from
a puppy mill in Missouri nearly 3 weeks ago.
They are just 11 months old! I am sure they
were there because their age would have made them great new additions to the breeding
stock. According to their papers they are littermates. This picture was taken the first
day they came to live with us.
George
is more reserved and for the first few days would lay quietly a few feet away and observe.
Whenever he was approached or held hed stiffen up and couldnt relax. Last
night for the first time in the 5 days theyve been here he let me hold him and
actually fell asleep in my arms. He loves to chew and has finally figured out just what
you can do with a rubber ball and nylabone! George still has bouts of stress behavior. He
will pace in circles when put in the "playpen" but if you talk to him he
relaxes. He also exhibited this behavior when he was first allowed to explore the patio
and is just starting to relax and enjoy discovering the backyard more.

He and Jeffy are learning what it is to be puppies at nearly one
year old. They chase each other round and round and roll and tumble, growling ferociously
all the while! All you can see is a whirling ball of fur and you cant tell where one
ends and the other begins.
They
are extremely devoted to each other - when one is out of sight of the other they cry and
are obviously upset. This picture shows George giving Jeffy a kiss during an outing in the
backyard two days ago
These little guys are so happy and everything is a new
experience for them it is just heart wrenching to think of all the dogs still in
wire prisons in the mills we have to get them out!!! |
