DeeDee is home...............
DeeDee has fit into our crazy household very well.
As you can see by the photos she can hold her own. We have 4 other dogs....and they really have quite a time with each other. We have Ming and Zero the rescued Shih Tzu's (although they were not from PMR,but rescued none the less) and PeeWee and Cecil the miniature schnauzers and then we have our sweet DeeDee, whom we have nicknamed Sapphire, after my recently deceased childhood friend, whose nickname was Sapphire. DeeDee loves to sleep on my lap and follows me every where. We never have any inside accidents and she is such a love. We are so thankful for PMR.....just wanted to let everyone know that DeeDee is doing great and has taken over our household completely. Let's hope for an early Spring!!!! Carolyn
This is was DeeDee
before.
She is an 8 - 9 year old Maltese.
Dee Dee is adopted and in her new home
Dee Dee spent her life giving everything to 15 to 17 litters of puppies. The breeder said she was "good for 2 - 3 more litters." She was seen by our vet today. She has one enormous mammary tumor and several smaller ones. An X-ray was performed and there are no tumors in her abdomen at this
time. Dee Dee is currently on antibiotics to fight infections that are in her mammary glands due to the tumors. We have to remain on this until her surgery. Please keep her in your prayers. Even with all that she has been through she is still friendly and loves attention. She is learning that you go potty in the grass and not on the concrete.
She had to be cut down due to being so matted when she won her freedom. Dee Dee underwent a dental, spay and tumor removal on August 22, 2003. They had a cancellation so they put her into the slot. She had so many mammary tumors that it took 55 minutes to remove the tumors. She came through the surgeries just fine. She is a trooper through and through. She had to have 4 teeth removed. She is left with one canine, 2 front teeth and one jaw tooth. Even with all she had been through she wagged her tail when I picked her up. Dee Dee had tumors removed from almost every mammary gland. Due to the size of the largest one she had a lot of excess skin. So they removed some of the excess skin and had to install to drains that will need to remain in place for 5 days. Dee has a total of 28 sutures.
Scroll down to see the after surgery pictures. WARNING: THESE ARE GRAPHIC PHOTOS Update August 23rd. Dee Dee is such a trooper. She woke me up at 2 a.m. to let me know that she was hungry. She ate a little bit of food and drank some water and finally got settled back down. She was alert and up and wagging her tail this morning. She went out to potty. At around noon she decided that she wanted to go out again. She trotted around the yard and then decided that she was feeling so good that she flipped onto her back and had a good roll in the grass. It had to feel good as she did this again. The freedom of not lugging around the weight of the tumors must feel better than the sutures. With all that this little one has gone through she is still loving life and loves people. Her tail does not stop wagging.
