Re: Emma Leigh from her new family. Update 7/31/02

Hi, Jeannine--things are going great! Emma Leigh is getting around much more now-- yesterday she even stole one of Peanuts treats—a Lea Pupperoni. I thought Peanut would fall over! The first two nights I had her sleep in the playpen but she was up at 5:30 so the last two nights I brought her bed upstairs and she slept fine-- I close the doors to the front bedroom and block the stairs so she can't get into anything and the rug is dogproof so that isn't a problem ( She is doing really good with going outside though  maybe she'll teach Peanut!) They get along great!

Emma is eating fine  yesterday she did a little dance when I brought her food out-- and she wags her tail when I talk to her and ends up wagging her whole body! She's got such a sweet disposition considering all she's been through.  The neighbors have all been over to meet her and think she's just adorable and she's met all their dogs --even the yellow lab next door who's a real teddy bear—they did fine. Last night Emma even stole Peanut's bed-- I got up to check on her and she was sound asleep in it-- Peanut just looked at me like " Whose idea was getting this dog??" but she was okay with it. So far so good!!

I think Doris and Steve did a wonderful job with her-- I know it was hard for them to give her up. They brought a really nice card and a photo album and all her food--plus a bed that put mine to shame!! They even took pictures and e-mailed them to me--really fantastic dog people.

Tonight Emma has her first vet appointment for a check up -- I had talked to my vet and she wanted to meet her--she's the one who saved Peanut when she was so sick. My daughter is going with me and I'll hold Emma Leigh in the car—Doris said she doesn't ride well-- but it's a short trip. I have all her records but I just want to be sure I'm doing all I should be. I'm sure the vet will love her, too.

Thanks again for helping me adopt her--- I couldn't be happier! Talk to you
soon. P.S.  Doris brought me a brochure about puppymills and I've been showing that to everybody I know. I've learned a lot -- hopefully I can educate a few people, too.

This is Emma Leigh a Yorkshire Terrier..

Emma Leigh is probably 6 years old. She is being fostered in Philadelphia, PA.
She is good with small dogs ( I have three Yorkies) but I don't think she would be good with a big one. It would probably frighten her. She still cowers and if there is a fast movement or if you approach her to fast, however if you do it slowly she welcomes pets and hugs. She gives kisses and isn't afraid of men or women.
She is not aggressive at all.
