Haley # 2
After Haley left us Joe and I had a difficult time accepting her death. Shortly afterward, we contacted an animal communicator who spoke with our dear girl. We were told that Haley did not want to leave us, but she could no longer stay in her body because of the long standing damage inflicted upon her. The animal communicator also said Haley would be coming back in spring as a long haired chi girl. She went on to say that I would know when I saw her and Joe would, without a doubt, know when it was her. We waited and waited and waited and looked at hundreds of pictures of puppies. Until one day I came across a picture that pulled at my heart. A couple days later I mentioned to Joe that we should go on the internet and look at any new puppies that were available. As not to influence him, I did not mention the puppy I thought was Haley. After we sat down I pulled up the Petfinders site and typed in the info for puppies. The page showing the list of puppies, which have the 1 inch pictures, appeared on the screen and no sooner was it up that Joe yelled “that’s her, there is Haley.” I was stunned because it was the same puppy I had seen. Out of the hundreds of pictures we saw, we both never had the feeling we were looking at our girl, but now, here in front of us, we both knew. We filled out the adoption application and sent it in to the rescue group. Then we waited and waited some more. As the days counted on, we became more and more nervous. We kept telling each other that she was going to come home to us and no one else. Days went into weeks but all we could do was try to be patient. We could not call on our app because under her description on Petfinders was the words, “do not call inquiring about your application, if you call you will not be considered to adopt.” Therefore, we were forced to sit back and wait. Everyday we went on the site, after waiting four weeks and watching both her sisters become adopted, I knew I could not sit back any longer. Since enough time had elapsed, either our app was not being considered or they never received it. I did not call the rescue group, but instead I emailed the woman in charge. After reading our letter, if she thought we were just a couple of crackers, the worst she would do was throw our app out. I figured at this point nothing was being done so we had nothing to loose in contacting them. In the letter I spilled my guts and explained everything to the woman about Haley: what had happened to her her whole life, her short time with us, and what the animal communicator had told us about her wanting to come back to us. To our wonderful surprise we had a reply the next morning. Her letter started out, “you know the movie “Jerry McGuire, …well you had me at hello.” All I could do was bawl my eyes out. I called Joe and tried to tell him what the letter had said, but he could not understand what I was saying and thought something terrible had happened to one of the babies. After getting the words out so he could understand, he too cried out loud. I kind of felt sorry for him because he works construction and it is not too cool to cry about your dog coming back to you when you are on the job. But lucky for him, no one was around to witness his actions. Then I called Les and we had a real good healthy cry together. The app did not say we had our baby, but at least she was still up for adoption, and at that, I knew we still had a fighting chance. Then after two very, very long days we received the word…we were bringing our baby home !!!!! We took all the kids with us and picked her up Saturday. And what a little sweet heart Haley is. She has the same body shape: her butt is shaped the same, her head is shaped the same, her ears are shaped the same, and her little legs have the same exact bone structure. But the most important aspect is she does not smell like a puppy, but instead she smells exactly the same, and I can not tell you how it feels to smell my Haley girl once again. We have been taking a gazillion pictures of our baby and there have been several pictures where Joe has had to ask me when the picture was taken because he could not tell if it was a picture taken recently of her. I think the two cutest things she does is, first is when she lays in her Daddy’s arms she positions her little head over his arm the way she always did before. The second, is out of all the beds we have she has only used one so far…the same one I made for her long ago, that she loved so much. All her actions, movements, and personality are exactly the same as before, but this time she gets to do everything with perfect eyesight. Speaking of her sight, the first night home, we were in the backyard and Haley started running, Joe started bawling, he was over joyed that his baby could now run in her park and see where she was going. Joe and I are overjoyed but I cant say the same for everyone else in the family. Boo is scared to death of her and runs when she sees Haley coming toward her. Dawn bit her the first night and gave her a little cut under her eye. Buttons, Bugzy, Rocky, and Daisy Mae also avoid her when possible. But I really think there is hope for our outgoing, friendly (LOL) children because this morning Bugzy and Dawn started playing together and running around the house, (I need to add that this has never happened in our house before) and there was little Haley running after them, rumbling and tumbling right along with them. Bugzy and Dawn were not playing with Haley but she did not care, she was jumping on them and biting their ears. I have heard it said that puppies add an energy to a house and it changes older grumpy puppies who have never played before into puppies themselves. We feel there is a big chance that in time we may have a houseful of running playing pups. For those of you who have seen Daisy Mae and her whole 4 pounds…well when Haley is next to her, she makes Daisy Mae look big. It is also odd because Haley just loves Dawn, she follows her everywhere. The funny thing is, is that Haley and her siblings were purchased at the same auction where Jamie bought Dawn.
We are sending along pictures…we hope you enjoy. Love to all, Joe and Jeanie
