by IMA Shyster

Pet Shop Stories

Lancaster County

Mia..........
Maia's Birthday was today.

Mia has been  adopted by her foster mommy.

Mia and all the puppies have now found homes....

Cisco and Poncho playing.

Pipa the only girl,

For proper development and socialization a litter should remain with its dam and littermates for the first 8-12 weeks of life, this seems to help them develop into healthy happy pups and develop relational skills. So, puppymills just mess up that entire cycle right there.
The government needs to wake up and realize these animals have psychological needs too.

Rosa is Pal to one of the boys....... "In Loving Memory Of Cassie-the-Dog"

Maia became the proud mommy of 4 beautiful pups this morning.

We have 3 little boys and 1 little girl!
The boys are 2 1/2 oz. each and the big girl is a large 3 oz!!
They are black with what appears to be white chests. Mommy seems to be doing well and
pups are nursing well too. Maia did a wonderful job and as little as she is she did not have to have a c-section.
please keep these tiny pups and their mommy in your thoughts, in the hope that they grow stronger with each & every day.

Dr. Mark Wray, of Chew's Landing Veterinary Hospital,
Laurel Springs, NJ examines a newborn puppy.

Mom and pups are tired ....but.....Grandma Jeannine is even more tired!.......

Mia has come a long way since she was rescued  week and a half ago from a Barn in MO.

She is a very tiny girl, topping out at 5.6 # due to whelp on Mother's Day. (if accurate) We are figuring she is roughly 3 1/2 - 4 #s when not pregnant.. She is carrying 2-3 pups. I am feeling a lot of movement when I rest my hand on her belly. We have everything gathered for the birth and standby help if needed as I work in a veterinarian's office.
Maia is housetrained. I have no explanation for it-she has had no accidents since she was rescued. She loves her playpen so much, is grateful for everything. she wants to be outgoing although she shows mill behavior in her fear of any loud or unusual sounds or quick movements. Also when given freedom to roam around the downstairs, up till today, she has a hard time relaxing. For example, i have her out of her beloved playpen, whenever I am home and doing things.
She is fine if I watch TV-
yesterday I reclined on my sofa and she found a place on my shoulder and curled up like a little ball and slept. She loves it and has been doing this kind of thing for the past few days. She loves to be petted and spoken to softly. She also loves me to sing to her and is getting to know her name.
However, if i am cooking dinner or doing wash-not sitting, she does not know what to do with herself.
She paces around the hall, kitchen, and family room. She does not know a dog bed (of which there are many) but
I have a crate pad on the floor and she is beginning to use that at times.
*update since yesterday! Maia finally mad herself comfortable in a dog bed-she slept and rested for quite awhile in it. we were so excited!
She has mastered the dog ramp and she can do the 2 steps up and down from kitchen to family room. She is also learning to enjoy sleeping on the deck.
She loves to eat and she and my dogs are fantastic together! Maia is a charming girl and the sweetest I have ever met.
