Nadine and Rosie

Update on Nadine and Rosie 8/17/06

I'll try to take some photo's of the girls this weekend ... I've been meaning to send an update to PMR but ..... ;->>>  Nadine has lost all her weight and is a proper sized Chi only about 6 lbs ...Rosie however has gained every pound Nadine lost!!!

Now that it is cooling down we will be taking walks and trying to get her a bit more active.
Nadine has come into her own and actually barks a little now.  I had never heard her say a word until the last few months, she's just starting barking.  I have to say I really enjoy it when she lets out a few sounds.  She rules the house, I am only here to serve her, she knows it and boy does she use it.  She has cataracts to the point where her vision is fairly impaired.  She runs into furniture, walls, doors all the time.  We try not to move the furniture around too much and leave her a path from one end of the house to the other to run.  Bill calls it "taking laps".   He will tell her to take a few laps and she'll run, FLAT-OUT, I mean as fast as she can!!! From one end of the house to the other .... to the front door and then turns around and runs FLAT-OUT to the back door. She is in the early stages of Alzheimer's so she gets confused and agitated but the vet has given her some medication to calm her anxiety a bit.  But she is healthy and happy and spoiled rotten!

Bill gets home before I do and he swears the girls must know how to tell time because right around 5pm they wake up, get up and go sit by the back door waiting for me to get home so he lets them out in the back yard to wait for me.   Rosie is my timid little girl and she gets scared really easily so we try to make sure that doesn't happen!  When I get home from work each day she runs up to me for her welcome home belly rub and then runs away and circles the yard and comes flying back at me to do it all over again.  We'll repeat this belly rub followed by a run until she's too tired to run anymore.  Which isn't too long!  But, it's nice to know she misses me and is really glad to see me when I get home.  Nadine comes up to me to say welcome home and get the top of her head scratched then she's at the door wanting to get back inside.  She's got a red velvet pillow with gold trim that says "Spoiled Rotten" on it and she LOVE's it.  Rosie's favorite place is under my bed (it is over a crawl space and the wood floor is nice and cool) and she especially likes it during thunder storms.

I'll try and get some digital pictures of the family this weekend and send them on.
They have truly been a blessing in my life and I am so glad PMR brought them into my life.  I don't know where I'd be without them!
All the best,
Tracy

Subject: Update on Nadine and  Rosie her last puppy was  born out of the mill when she was 11 years old,

Nadine had given all her previous pups at 6 weeks old to the Pet Shops.

She loved her last puppy so much we adopted them out together. ( Robin)

The girls are great. They adapted better and quicker than I'd even hoped for.

They immediately took to Bear's big pillow and we put a blanket on it and it's now theirs. No matter where we put it the girls go and lay on it. Nadine has also found Bears special spot next to the hot water pipe. So she lays closest to it (age has it's benefits) Rosie next to her and Bear is on the outside next to Rosie. I'm trying to sneak a digital picture but as soon as they see me they jump up and come running.

Nadine has become my special girl, she follows me where ever I go. She loves to sit on my lap and has even occasionally slept with me in the big people bed for a lazy Saturday morning nap. She loves to lay on the couch with Ron at night or if he comes home before me in the afternoon he grabs the whole trio and naps on the sofa. Nadine's so happy with him there that she doesn't even budge when the other two jump up and com e running because they

Most importantly and quite wonderfully, Rosie has been coming out of her shell and is quite the little playmate for Bear. They were a little shy of each other at first but they LOVE to run and chase each other in the yard. They play tag for hours! Bear chases Rosie until he gets tired of it and then she turns around and chases her. She has also learned to play with all the toys! We can't get her to fetch or tug like Bear will but she plays keep-away with Bear with every toy he has! It's great fun! They are such a treat to watch.

The girls love the backyard, Nadine lays in the garden on a little pile of mulch she pushed together (I'll build her a more suitable pad when the weather's a bit better) and the two kids run crazily around the yard in circles and back and under the patio furniture, then under the swing then over to the gate and under the grill then back to the swing and around the garden ..... you get the picture?

We're quite thrilled with our family and they seem to be happier and happier every day. As I'm writing this, Nadine is laying on a blanket in a reclining chair next to me. Ron is napping with Bear in the bedroom and Rosie is sitting at my feet chewing on a stuff frog's ear.

My current challenges include trying to get the girls to stop doing their business in the house (they are getting better, especially as the weather gets better, I don't have to fight to get them outside) and trying to get the girls to take a walk with Bear and I. Nadine absolutely refuses to move once she's outside the backyard so I carry her in a pouch on my chest. Rosie fights the leash terribly but she's learning a little by Bear's example. We take slow, short walks and try to get her used to it. She'll be great at it soon, we know!

Thanks pretty much what the family is up to.

Thanks Puppymillrescue for bringing our girls to us. We are very happy with them.
