Montana the Dachshund looks for a forever home
Montana is a wonderful long-haired dachshund who celebrates his 6th
birthday in October. (He's a Libra!) As you can see, he's a
beautiful
red sable color and has maintained his boyish figure at a lean 15
pounds. Montana is looking for a committed relationship with a very
special person. He is excellent in the car, and would love to go
places
with his person. Montana loves to be outside and would do very well
with someone who is physically active. He would love to have someone
home most of the day as he really wants to be a good companion. He
gets
along with other dogs although I think he would prefer being an only
dog. (I understand he also gets along with cats in the home, however
I
don't have any so can't confirm this.) Montana gets along well with
men
or women, however, he is not suitable for households with children.
Once he is on an established schedule, I believe Montana is house
trained.
Montana is very loving and eager to please. He likes to be with his
person whether curled up next to you on the sofa watching television
or
sleeping in bed at night. Montana does NOT like to be confined and
does
have some minor separation anxiety issues we are working on. (He
doesn't seem to have a problem when I leave but gets overly excited
when
I get home.) He does walk on a leash and likes to go for long walks.
We
have gone on walking trails and visited the farmer's market and he
was
excellent. But, being a "hound", he does get excited when he picks
up a
scent, so he can pull hard, especially early in the morning and late
at
night (the scents must be stronger at these times). For this reason,
a
fenced in yard might be helpful as he could go out a patrol his
area.
Also, I'm sure some training would help in this area. Montana loves
to
be brushed -- he will roll over on his back so you can brush his
tummy.
Montana has been diagnosed with crystals in his urine. However,
eating
prescription food from the vet takes care of this problem. Although
the
food is a little more expensive, he does not eat much so a supply
lasts
a long time. Other than this, Montana is in excellent health.
Montana is currently fostered in Central Illinois. Feel free to
contact
his foster mom at janis_swanton@yahoo.com for additional information
